After Cricket its Football in India

As the World Cup date is nearing, in India the most football crazy states been kerala and West Bengal will be very eager to the Kick off to happen.

Brazil & Argentina teams been favourities in India and supporters are going out of way to ensure that there is no disruption while during the match. A classic example Nainamvalappu, in the northern Kerala district of Kozhikode,here the locals are not complaining about being in the dark this summer. They are experiencing long power cuts for over a week now as the state electricity board repairs power cables in the area. Instead of being grumpy, though, the 7000-plus residents are happy. They know good times is round the cornor: Uninterrupted power during match time in June, when the World Cup kicks off in South Africa.

Far away to the east, Kolkata, there's a similar buzz building up as kick-off time nears.

Here, Lothar Matthaus kicked off the excitement five months ago, on January 15, when the German supremo unveiled the trophy during its global tour.

Soccer fever has also meant brisk sales for jerseys and flags of different teams. Hamsakoya, who runs a sports goods outlet, says he sold as many as 4000 pieces each of the Brazil and Argentina jersey in less than a month. Though the mood in the city predominantly favours Brazil, Hamsakoya says the demand was more for Argentina flags.
